yellow belts
In order to be promoted to a yellow belt, students build competency.
These techniques include:
Rolling techniques
foundational throws
basic pinning sequences
basic chokes
basic armbar & setup
orange BELTS
In order to be promoted to an orange belt, students must build on their yellow belt foundations adding additional techniques.
These techniques include:
sweeps & reaps
common combinations
Intermediate pins
intermediate chokes
Additional armbar types and escapes
green BELTS
In order to progress fully as a green belt, students must have mastered foundational throws, reaps and trips and can begin to apply them dynamically in sparring.
Additional techniques include:
Intermediate level throws: Harai Goshi, Tsurikomi goshi, morote seoi nage
Advanced pins & sweeps
Dynamic application of Triangle choke
Armbar escapes
brown (sankyu)
In order to progress fully as a brown sankyu belt, students must have mastered intermediate throws, reaps, trips, chokes and armbars and can begin to apply them dynamically in sparring.
Additional techniques include:
advanced level throws: Uchi Mata, Tai Otoshi, Harai Tsurikomi Ashi
Advanced combinations & counters
Advanced Pins: triangle choke pin
Sparring offensive concepts (attack timing, volume)
brown (nikyu) BELTS
In order to progress fully as a brown nikyu belt, students must be able to demonstrate & apply their learnings of throws, reaps, trips, submissions, counters in both form and in sparring. cAdditionally, students must demonstrate the spirit of Judo which includes:
Mutual welfare & Benefit: They are a good partner and judo ambassador
Continuous improvement: They compete against themselves
Training regimen: continuous, high-level training
Community involvement: training, kata, volunteering, refereeing, scorekeeping
brown (ikkyu) BELTS
In order to progress fully as a brown ikkyu belt, students must be able to demonstrate & apply their learnings of throws, reaps, trips, submissions, counters in both form and in sparring. Additionally, students must demonstrate the spirit of Judo which includes:

black BELTS
In order to progress fully towards blackbelt, students must be able to demonstrate & apply their learnings of throws, reaps, trips, submissions, counters in both form and in sparring. Additionally, students must demonstrate the spirit of Judo which includes:
Leadership: Assisting with instruction of lesser experienced judoka
Mutual welfare & Benefit: They are a good partner and judo ambassador
Continuous improvement: They compete against themselves
Training regimen: continuous, high-level training
Community involvement: training, kata, volunteering, refereeing, scorekeeping
