In order to be promoted to a black-orange belt, students build on their prior foundations of safety and fun, to explore new slightly more challenging techniques.

In order to be promoted to a black-green belt, students must being mastering a few of the key foundational throws including Seoi nage. Additionally, they will start learning the art of competition through sparring (randori):

Ippon Seoi Nage
Sparring techniques (gripping, posture, foot movement)
Intermediate leg reaps
Pin combinations

In order to progress fully as a black-green belt, students must have mastered foundational throws, reaps and trips and can begin to apply them dynamically in sparring.
Additional techniques include:
Intermediate level throw: Harai Goshi
Sparring defensive concepts (hip blocking)
Transition from standing to ground work
Sparring offensive concepts (attack timing, volume)
